One way I save money is whenever I am expected to give a gift for a birthday or holiday I bake a delicious treat instead, such as my famous chocolate chip cookies, and package it nicely. Inexpensive AND thoughtful!

I totally agree, particularly if you know a treat that person really loves. Be it chocolate chip cookies, fudge, brownies or what have you, find out what that person likes as far as food/sweets and bake away!

That is a great idea. I always like giving usable gifts to people rather than just another doo-dad to sit around and collect dust. I make a lot of interesting breads and often give away loaves of them as gifts.

Loaves of bread as gifts is a great idea! I usually do up cookies but maybe next time I'll hook up some banana bread or something.

I would loooooooooove banana bread as a gift. Much more than cookies, I think. So feel free to bake it for me anytime, LOL!

SOmetimes I make a bread box and give it to people - especially friends and older relatives. I usually give 1/2 loaves of banana bread, my famous raisin cinamon bread, chocolate-cherry bread, and then some more savory ones like pizza bread, garlic & herb bread, and corn bread.

Have a cookie swap. Invite ten friends (or so) and each of you bring a dozen dozen cookies. Make sure they are all different kinds. Then you each take home a dozen of the other varieties. Then you have 12 dozen different kinds of cookies to make trays or to have for the holidays.

That is an excellent idea kelkat! I never thought of something like that. That would surely increase your cookie tray's popularity at the holiday party!

That reminds me...around the holidays we have a cookie baking party. Everyone brings one ingredient, and the refreshments are already provided, you know? LOL.

We do a white elephant party. You bring something nice from your home that you don't use or want that you think someone else would enjoy. Then we play dirty santa! You don't have to buy a cheesy $5 gift, you recycle, and everyone goes home with something to enjoy!
