Okay, so you aren't going to try to get a special deal on the shampoo you buy at Walmart, but you can often talk down the price on high ticket items in other stores.

Many people haggle over the price of a new or used car, but you can also haggle about appliances, electronics, and other high-ticket items.  People even haggle over high-priced fashion items!

My father is the king of the haggle.  He recently replaced his old 56 inch projection TV with a comperably sized plasma TV.  He was able to talk the manager (always ask for the manager right away) down $800 off the set AND get free shipping and set up (which they wanted to charge nearly $70.00 for).

Do you have any great haggling stories?

Well I rarely buy anything new so I am often in prime haggling position, LOL. I've never tried haggling in an actual full price retail store however.

Sometimes they can't haggle down the price because it's set by "they" at the corporate level.  They will throw in extras with the price, though.  Like getting free mattress with the bed, or paper with a printer, or dvd's with the tv.  Make them an offer and if it's not what you are willing to do then go somewhere else or get something else.

Oh, we did haggle when we bought our girls new beds. We haggled down the price of the frames and matresses, and got ourselves free delivery. We walked in with a figure we were willing to spend and not one penny more, and we got our money's worth!

I'm not much of a haggler so I suppose I'll have to send my fiance in when we have to do anything like this.

That is true kelkat.  And surely, the lowly clerk can't haggle prices or extras with you.  It really gives me a charge when I can get something for less or added in as a bonus.
