1  Coupons & Deals / Printable Coupons / Printable Grocery Coupons? on: September 14, 2006, 07:30:38 AM
Does anyone else have a problem with their supermarket or grocery store accepting printed grocery coupons?  I have had a couple refuse to honor the coupons I have printed online.

What do you do in that instance?

It definately was a learning experience.

Being frugal takes a particular mindset I think.  There are so many other things that I would rather spend money on than food or expensive clothing.  Every 50 cents I can save on a can of soup is one step closer to realizing my dreams Smiley

Lyric - he was kinda insane.  I don't know what he expected me to do, quite frankly.  We lived on Ramen and potatos mostly and I would use cloth diapers when he went out (he thought they were nasty and refused to let me use them all the time.)

Now, I'm just glad to be able to save money so I can spend it on things I think are worthwhile.

My frugality came from being poor as well - I didn't grow up that way, but was extremely poor during my marriage.  Coupled with an absuive, controlling husband who would give me $20 and expect me to buy diapers, milk, and all food for us for a week - I learned to be frugal.  It just made sense to stick with it after I divorced him.

What could be better than a magnet to help you realize when you have enough Guiness and when you need to go buy more?

6  General Free Stuff / Freebies / Re: Over 4,000 Sweepstakes to Enter on: September 09, 2006, 11:25:42 AM
I used to be into enterring sweepstakes online.  The biggest prize I ever got was a cordless phone.  I just ran out of time to do it though.

Shopping early is definately the sane thing to do.  I shop all year long, and compare prices online.  Ebay is great for buying gifts.  Each year, we do a big decorating theme for christmas and make decorations for the house.  We make decorations our of found materials like pine cones as well.

We don't have can returns here in NJ, though you can collect all of your cans and sell them to a recycling place for some cents per pound.  I did that a while back, but its too much of a hassle for the return now.

That is true kelkat.  And surely, the lowly clerk can't haggle prices or extras with you.  It really gives me a charge when I can get something for less or added in as a bonus.

I've found that store brands in soda are really just as good as the national brands.  And they are the only ones you get the interesting flavors in, like birch beer and pineapple soda.  I have a weakness for pineapple soda.

Time is the stickler for me!  I never have enough of it.  But, I figure, since they say "Time is money," if I save enough money, I must get some more time, too.  Cheesy  It never works though.

Well, I don't do it expressely to save money, but because I like sewing and think its really neat to wear something that no one else is wearing.  Making the PJs is just cost effective.  I can whip up PJ pants for my boys for $1.00.  A lot better than spending $10.00 on each one at the store!
