I love the one income idea.  I currently work from home and should make around $300-400 a month.  Not a lot but I think we'll be sticking mine in savings and living off his.  Fantastic idea!

My mother usually waits till after the holiday and buys a ton of wrapping paper.  She specifically gets papers that could work well for almost any holiday, like non-descript papers around Christma time.

That's a fabulous idea.  I'm not a terrific seamstress but I've altered shirts before and made skirts too Smiley

Anyone have some good cost-saving tips for a couple just about to embark into the outside world on their own?  My fiance and I are getting married in October and staying with my folks until June-July of this next year or earlier, depending on our finances.

I do, I do!  I definetly thrift for clothing, not so much dishes or such.  And for books as well.

I concur with the high speed net.  I also won't give up my Multiplayer Online Games.  But I do refuse to have more than two at a time of those.

Man, I wish I was in the market for a new computer now.

I agree, I refuse to compromise on toilet paper and kleenexs.
But everything else, generic.  Except for peanut butter.

I'm definetly going to have to keep any eye out now!
10  Discussion: / How You Save Money / Re: 4 Quick Tips to Save Money Grocery Shopping on: August 28, 2006, 06:55:16 PM
I'd like to say, definetly don't be afraid to shop smaller grocery stores.  Save-A-Lots are lovely, as well as Aldi's, as someone else mentioned.
And definetly learn to love those generic/store brands.  They are often just as good at the regular and sometimes made by the same companies.  For example, did you know that the company that makes Butternut also makes a knockoff brand called Homestyle that is the EXACT same bread, only packaged differently and almost half the price?

Living well while saving is all about learning to comprimise and find enjoyement in other ways, if you ask me.  My fiance and I have the advantage of living with my parents for the time being but we also know that at some point, we'll have to drastically tighten our belts when it comes to some of the things we love doing (eating out, for one).
But you have to learn to find happiness in other things.  Maybe instead of eating out, he and I could learn to pack lunches and have them in a nice spot outside.  Or stay home and watch a movie rather than hit the theaters.

You could always make yourself a pantry if you have room in that garage.  As long as you stored your things in a dry place away from pests, you ought to be alright doing such.
13  Discussion: / How You Save Money / Re: Baked goods make great gifts on: August 28, 2006, 06:44:06 PM
I totally agree, particularly if you know a treat that person really loves.  Be it chocolate chip cookies, fudge, brownies or what have you, find out what that person likes as far as food/sweets and bake away!
14  Discussion: / How You Save Money / Re: I love ebay for buying clothes! on: August 28, 2006, 06:43:19 PM
Ebay is a fantastic place to buy things as long as you do your homework and keep an eye on who's items you're bidding on and what the items usually go for.  Also, read feedback - it's there to give you an idea of how the person handles business and you should ALWAYS take it into consideration before doing business with them.
15  Discussion: / How You Save Money / Re: Haggle for Everything! on: August 28, 2006, 06:41:43 PM
I'm not much of a haggler so I suppose I'll have to send my fiance in when we have to do anything like this.
